Some fathers – some parents also, come to think of it – do not really understand their children well. That is a given fact in most families.
I mention that mainly because my father once gave me a lecture that I thought was more appropriate for a drinking man, if you know what I mean.
He was telling me about how to take care of my financial affairs in order to avert bankruptcy and to evade running into debt.
The usual preludes came not too fast and furious, as is his custom. Penny wise but pound foolish, a fool and his/her money are easily parted, do not put all your eggs in the same basket, trust nobody – not even your brother – with your money, wife or land…
If you do not want to lose some regular visitors to your blog site, refrain from making generalized remarks in your posts, such as, “Everybody is a fool for something/anything…”
No, I said that, not my Dad. :o) But let us continue with my Dad’s parental advice to me years ago.
Then he paused for effect and released the punch line that he had saved for last. He told me, before I left home for the university:
“Whenever you are going out with some friends to have fun, spread your money equally into all the pockets available on your clothing.
Keep the amount of money that would get you safely home in your right-hand back pocket; that way, as you shop and carouse, you will know when it is time to go home as your right hand reaches for your back pocket!”
