I lost my car headlight to a bike

I am still reeling from the shock of the road accident. It happened last Monday. I was supposed to go for an appointment elsewhere but decided instead first to take my Mum to her laboratory test for fasting blood sugar.

All went well as i dropped her off at the lab and went to and fro the bank branch nearby before returning to pick her for the trip back home. We decided to turn left instead from the lab building because of the heavy traffic building up on the right hand side.

We had successfully negotiated two lanes of vehicles going to the right and were just about turning onto the road in the opposite direction when we heard a "whump" and a screeching skid across the road.

The biker had two other passengers on his bike! The biker and the last-seated passenger sustained elbow and ankle scrapes and bruises.

The first seated passenger, who had been sandwiched between the biker and the other passenger, bore the full brunt of the accident.

He tore the skin on the side of the fleshy part of the calf of his right leg just below the knee. The nasty oval wound was sutured within minutes in a nearby hospital and he was up and about in two hours.

In such accidents, you should not debate about who was right or wrong or at fault, even though witnesses noted that I was not the cause of the accident: you just get the victims some medical attention immediately.

This may rankle the sensibilities of lawyers and other legal-types overseas, but I must say it. I paid for their treatment at the hospital on humanitarian grounds, even though the bike rider was a reckless speed demon.

What do you think? Would you have done the same? I am just curious about what you would have done in the same circumstances.

By the way, my damaged right hand side front headlight has still not been fixed: waiting for my next pay check to come, after all the hospital expenses mentioned above.
