I have just scene a replay of the World Final IAAF 100 meters in Berlin. I will never forget the commentator's repetitive refrain of "...Is there anything he cannot do?..."
Yes, against all odds and speculative permutations, Usain Bolt has beaten Tyson Gay in 9.58 seconds to break his own Olympic and World record. 'Yam power' at work again!
At least that's what Usain's father provides as the reason for his son's blistering speed on the tartan tracks.
That revelation may also explain why Usain Bolt says that he cannot leave Jamaica for the USA to train because he would be too home sick after a very short time away from home.
Hey, I too love yams - just had some boiled slices with a topping of vegetables and stew with turkey meat for dinner.
And boy, am I raring to go at this particular post. That's one more anecdote for the track and field, courtesy of Usain, the new and undisputed World Champion in 100 meters.

UPDATE - Saturday, August 22, 2009:
Usain Bolt eased up before the finish line but still broke his Olympic/World record in the 200 meters men's final at the Berlin World Championships.
The gap between himself and the rest of the field was just too embarrassingly wide in the absence of Tyson Gay, who had pulled out of this second race allegedly to nurse his injured groin muscles, and so had nobody to pace him to victory once more.
Of course, his 19.19 seconds was simply amazing; however, I had expected about a run of 19.15 or less, bearing in mind his magical run at the last Olympics, when his 200 meters time had been less than twice his 100 meters clock time.
However, he still remains the only man to hold world records simultaneously in both the Olympic and World Championship races over 100 meters and 200 meters.
So, all I can say is, watch out for his next 200 meters record! There seems to be no speed limit and no new world record beyond his reach; and he is still just 22 years old...
UPDATE - Friday, September 11, 2009:
Just yesterday in the US, in a place called Loveland within the so-called Cheetah Encounter Area, the management of the Zoo and Botanical Gardens of Cincinnati in Ohio State demonstrated that the cheetah was still the fastest land mammal on four feet.
The zoo's eight-year old female cheetah called Sarah set a new world record over 100 meters: just a bit below 6.13!
Now I know what mark Usain Bolt should aim for next in the coming years! Read more about the amazing cheetah Sarah below...

UPDATE - Thursday, October 01, 2009:
It must be mentioned that this year's World Athletic championships brought the news about Usain Bolt's hankering for McDonald-style chicken mcnuggets.
Perhaps, somebody needs to remind him that such a diet should not be recommended fare for super athletes.
All I can say is that yams have great regenerative powers and nobody should ever be ashamed of having yam tubers as a favorite meal.
I remember my late grandmother saying something to the effect that anyone patient enough to cultivate yams on a farm would definitely move on to do very great things in life - the yam planter will achieve greatness, as will the eater of yams obviously.

Stumble It!
