Yes, I think that I am beginning to develop a liking for US President Obama. I mean, you cannot deny that he has genuine commonsense and the rare audacity to dream his hopes into reality.
Not to mention Mrs. Obama's great dating advice to young women of today! She wisely counseled them, according to a, I think, SKY cable news report earlier this month or so, to check out beforehand how their prospective dates treated their own mother.
Wow! That would certainly filter out the rabble rousers, lazy wannabees, and foul-mouthed hobgoblins out there who would hope to hobnob with the real ladies and princesses out there today in the land of the well-heeled - certainly, I would want nothing less of a going-out-with-the-boys guideline for my little baby girl in the next decade or so.
Anyway, back to the POTUS. I was indifferent - almost irreverent - in the past but now I am somewhat getting won over by his sheer courage.
Yes, the courage to go all-out for a healthcare reform package that only a single Republican has so far supported - more likely an expression of party envy for their own missed opportunity in eight years.
Obama himself, in this BBC article on troop reinforcements for the war in Afghanistan, states is succinctly as follows.
[....."We are going to dismantle and degrade their capabilities and ultimately dismantle and destroy their networks," he said.
"After eight years, some of those years in which we did not have, I think, either the resources or the strategy to get the job done, it is my intention to finish the job."....]
That's quite something very personally brave to declare, isn't it, especially since the enemy in question is not standing still with arms folded or at ease with arms akimbo?
The final declaration that broke my Obama-love resistance was this New York Times news article by Julia Preston about an impending immigration overhaul in the US.
I have often wondered why the Republicans hated illegal immigrants so much that they were willing to deny them even medical subsidies.
If an illegal alien got swine flu, would a US citizen not also be worse off? I think in the past there were attempts to regularise illegal immigrant status but the procedure was so tortuous that it was somehow risky.
I remember the example, in 1986 or 1987, when there was an announcement that all those who had lived inside the US illegally for at least five years consecutively and then still wanted to become permanent US residents, and could prove that they entered the US illegally, should head to a Texas court so that the judge would have them so declared.
Ha-ha... That would have been stupid of any illegal immigrant, in my humble opinion, who had something against being deported, of course.
I believe that Mr. Obama has done the right thing by refusing to ignore the undocumented millions whose only sin is to seek asylum abroad in pursuit of happiness and a better life.
Way to go, Sir! Cheers...Only he who wears the shoe knows where it pinches most. If the existing restrictions and limitations were there prior to independence, would America exist today?
Technology and life have a chicken and egg relationship. Life derives a new meaning from technology, while the living strive to improve technology so that life flourishes safely and healthily... Do indulge awhile: words have an impact!
